The Weinberg Residence by Sim Bruce Richards
San Diego Country Estates, Ramona
Across the months of collaborative design work, architect Richards proffered site-specific work by his team (AKA Bruce’s Troops) including fireplace mason Bill Davey, sculptor James Hubbell and ceramist Rhoda LeBlanc Lopez to contribute (alongside some fantastic custom Heath tile work) to the aesthetic environment being created for the client.
Spanish Colonial Revival by Lilian Rice
Rancho Santa Fe
Lilian’s personal style came from her interests in indigenous earthen architecture of her region, and her personal travels to Spain. She was far more understated in architectural nuance than that of her peer, Richard Requa. Where Requa moved more toward grander and complex architectural statements in San Diego, Lilian created composite scenes of serenity and quiet beauty in Rancho Santa Fe.
Residence in the Albert R. Walker and Percy Eisen Designed El Cortez
Cortez Hill, Downtown
From its opening in 1927 through the 1950s, it was the most glamorous apartment-hotel in San Diego. The large "El Cortez" sign, which is illuminated at night, was added in 1937 and could be seen for miles. In the 1950s, the building was home to the world's first outside glass elevator.
