1933 California Hacienda-style Ranch Home (Lindstrom House) by Cliff May - Kensington
This Spanish Hacienda is the second home designed by Cliff May. Not only is it designated as a Historic Landmark under the Mills Act, but it is also on the US National Register of Historic Places.
May’s characteristic single-story ranch house floorplan surrounds another signature feature, an idyllic courtyard. Generously scaled hallway with dark-stained timber ceilings and terracotta pavers introduces iconic interior that defines indoor/outdoor living. Five bee-hive fireplaces adorn bedrooms and living areas complimenting the casual elegance and authenticity of May’s design. Arcaded verandah off living room extends the relaxed living space overlooking lush canyon.
May is considered the originator of the California Ranch style home. He gave a rebirth to an almost lost style as he adapted old ideas to model living. May had a natural feel for the hacienda way of life because as a 6th generation Californian, he had lived that life style. As a member of the Estudillo/Pedrorena family tree, he spent summers on the Las Flores rancho and lived in Old Town in the Estudillo house.
